Placer County Transportation Planning Agency (PCTPA) has developed a comprehensive draft transportation plan for the county after two years of extensive study and community outreach. The plan will be outlined in a series of town hall meetings hosted by PCTPA in November. All meeting times are 6:00 – 8:00 pm and will feature a short, formal presentation at 6:30.

Placer County’s streets and roads are in great need of rehabilitation, and it is essential for the community to come together to discuss methods of addressing this issue. These meetings will serve as an opportunity for local residents to review the draft transportation plan prepared by PCTPA, and will give participants a chance to offer feedback.
The proposed plan would reduce traffic and improve the quality of life for Placer County residents by addressing hot spots and selected highway interchanges including reconfiguring the 80/65 Interchange to significantly relieve congestion and improve safety, widen Highway 65 from Galleria Blvd. to Lincoln, resurface streets, fix potholes, extend Capitol Corridor rail service and provide for bike, pedestrian and trail enhancements.
The county’s aging streets and roads require more maintenance than current levels of transportation funding allow. PCTPA is exploring a half cent transportation sales tax that would expire no later than 30 years from now. The tax would have to be placed on a ballot and require 2/3 voter approval. Specific plans for each area will be detailed at its corresponding town hall meeting, as will best practices from other counties that have adopted local transportation taxes to ensure funds are spent in the way voters intend.
